News and Events

  • My article in the New York Sun on what has to be the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time – cooking military intelligence.
  • I was interviewed by a Scottish literary website called Edinburgh 49 and I was impressed with their thoughtful questions. Here is the interview.
  • My latest articles that appear in The Weekly Standard and Tablet Magazine –
  • Trinity – 2015 … on the 70th anniversary of the Trinity test, the first nuclear test in New Mexico on July 16, 1945
  • The Greatest Liberation … from the Weekly Standard, a story I heard many years ago, seemingly inconsequential … turns out to be one of the most amazing stories I ever heard.

  • My most recent appearance at the 92nd Street Y in New York City was on February 11, 2014 with Prof. Michael Doran, formerly with the White House NSC and the Pentagon. The topic was Iran. I will post the video as soon as it is available.
  • On the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy, a fascinating look at an unknown woman who was thrust into the story that day … and the book that is still to this day, the finest work on the topic. From the New York Sun: “I Could Stay Here Forever.”
  • On the 30th anniversary of the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, the worst possible response. How A Terror Attack Against Our Marines Reverberated Down the Decades.
  • My latest OpEd from the Wall Street Journal, June, 11, 2013, 24 Hours That Changed America.
  • This profile of General Curtis LeMay appeared in the April 29, 2013 issue of Investors Business Daily. By the way, the Air Force Academy Class of 2013 – also known as the Class of LeMay – graduated on May 30, 2013. One of my greatest joys was giving the Exemplar Lecture to all 2,000 Cadets at the Academy. Congratulations to all of you and best wishes!
  • Wall Street Journal OpEd April 5, 2013 regarding a fascinating number: 9-24-177-620 and what it means for the future. Tiger Students.
  • I appeared at the 92nd Street “Y” in New York City on February 26th, 2013. The topic: “Earthquake in the Middle East … Are there any good options for the U.S. and Israel?” with Professor Walter Russel Mead. It was a lively discussion and I will post the video when it is available.
  • My latest book – Presidential Courage: Three Speeches That Changed America is now available as an eBook at Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble.
  • My OpEd in the Wall Street Journal from January, Lance Armstrong and Our Unheroic Age. I was thinking of the paltry list of heroes available to young boys today and how lucky I was to be raised in another time. By the way, I don’t mean to forget young girls, it’s just that boys today have a higher incidence of drop-outs, violence, drug and suicide problems.
  • This OpEd from last summer, Nuclear-Weapon States Aren’t Created Equal, poses this question: Does a nuclear U.S., U.K. or even a nuclear Israel cause you to lose sleep at night? It shouldn’t since all three democracies have shown themselves to be responsible countries. Now what about a nuclear Iran which has proven itself to be quite irresponsible?
  •  FDR’s D-Day Prayer, appeared in the Wall Street Journal on the 68th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 2012. It’s a presidential address that has always fascinated me and it’s the genesis of the new eBook on Presidential Courage: Three Speeches That Changed America.
  •  The Dayton Lesson for America’s Shrinking Military, appeared in the Wall Street Journal on March 13, 2012, and draws an important lesson from over 60 years ago.
